Applications now open for Monash University's Community Interpreting course

Multilingual Victorians are welcome to apply for Monash University's Entry-Level Community Interpreting Level 1 professional development short course.

The full day introductory course will be held on Friday 8 September 2017 at the Monash University Law Chambers in Melbourne.

Suitable for people without any formal intepreting experience, the course is open to those with high level language skills in English and another language or languages.

The course will cover the foundational skills and knowledge required to work as an interpreter in Australia, including topics such as:

  • interpreting skills and techniques
  • the Translation & Interpretation industry
  • NAATI accreditation and testing
  • memory skills
  • ethics
  • the role of the interpreter
  • common interpreting settings
  • dialogue interpreting practice

Participants will benefit from presentations by experienced translating and interpreting professionals, and practical interpreting exercises.
