The Victorian Multicultural Commission joined the Victorian Government and Victoria Police to congratulate 19 recipients of Victoria's Multicultural Awards for Excellence 2016 in a special ceremony at Government House on Thursday 13 October, 2016.
The outstanding achievements of Victoria’s newest Diversity Heroes spanned areas such as philanthropy, advocacy, leadership, arts, health, education, media and innovation.
Victoria’s MulticulturalAwards for Excellence acknowledge significant achievements and services of individuals and organisations who have actively supported cultural diversity and made a positive impact in promoting community harmony.
Now in their 15th year, the awards are an opportunity to celebrate one of our state’s greatest assets – our multicultural community - and shine a spotlight on people and organisations who deserved to be recognised as Victoria's Diversity Heroes.
Coordinated annually by the Victorian Multicultural Commissioan, the 2016 awards received more than 170 nominations across 12 categories, including two new categories – the Youth Award and the Award for Community Innovation.
Additional to the 19 recipients recognised at the special awards ceremony, a total of 77 certificates of merit were distributed before the event.
