Cultures and/or faiths:
Our event is open to all cultures and faiths, and our hope is that as many are represented as possible (in terms of bot presenters and audience).

The ‘Cultural Diversity and News in Australia’ symposium will explore the role of the media in strengthening or weakening social cohesion in Australia. The symposium will present research on the media’s coverage of multicultural events and issues and facilitate discussion between various stakeholders such as the media, community leaders, scholars and policy makers to identify strategies to strengthen the role of journalism in building and maintaining multicultural resilience among Australian communities. The symposium is convened by Dr Usha Rodrigues and Professor Yin Paradies, Deakin University, and supported by the Victoria Government’s Social Cohesion Research Grant, Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) and the Ethnic Communities' Council of Victoria (ECCV). Places are limited. Abstracts and discussion panel proposals are due by 31 July 2017. Registration will close at 5:00pm on 11 August 2017.
