Handel’s Messiah was first performed in Dublin on 13 April 1742 and received its London premiere nearly a year later. After an initially modest public reception, the oratorio gained in popularity, eventually becoming one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music. This November at the Ivanhoe Girls Grammar Performing Arts Centre, under the direction of Peter Bandy, Heidelberg Choral Society and orchestra will be joined by eminent soloists Margaret Orr (Soprano), Dimity Shepherd (Mezzo soprano), Brenton Spiteri (Tenor) and Nathan Lay (Baritone). “Every performance of Messiah is different and always enjoyable and challenging,” says Peter Bandy. “And the November performances by Heidelberg Choral Society will be no exception.” To book, phone 9434 4742 or email tickets@hcs.asn.au or book at https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=308195.
