Common Ground is a unique, multilingual, multi-faith project that uses various forms of writing, primarily spoken word, to build connection and understanding between young people of diverse faiths and cultures. This year the Beckett at The Coopers Malthouse will be transformed into a free night of storytelling, vulnerability and strength as the 2017 Common Ground spoken word poetry workshop series come to an end. The night will get you clicking your fingers to the powerful verses of young people from diverse backgrounds residing in the City of Whittlesea, City of Brimbank and City of Greater Shepparton with special appearances from their world renowned facilitators Alia Gabres, Meena Shamaly, Soreti Kadir, Abdul Hammoud, Manal Yonous, Nour Abouzeid and Sukhjit Khalsa. Come hungry for some honest pieces of performance poetry/rap and join us for some snacks after the show or head to another line up of Mapping Melbourne Festival’s amazing talent.
